For references in regard to the Carbon Black Hopper Car fleet please consult Railmodel Journal, January 2007, Page 42
with an article by Richard Hendrickson.
This set was produced to fill a gap for these cars which hasn't been done before.

The very first Carbon Black Cover Hoppers was built in 1922. By the end of 1942, 368 cars had been built. All of these were
40 ton, 300 cubic feet nominal capacity cars. Builders of these cars included American Car & Foundry, General American
Tank Car Corporation, and Pullman Standard Company.

This sheet has enough data to letter 4 cars in 5 different schemes. The Cabot Spheron car’s “Certified” script is designed for
each panel to have part of the logo, and then there are individual pieces which are designed to fit over the ribs, so once
arranged, it will appear seamless across the car side. Additionally, the United Carbon Company cars, had two different
schemes as illustrated in the photos provided with these instructions.

The Carbon Black covered hoppers covered by this set have been produced as a resin kit by F&C and as a plastic styrene kit
by Rail Shops, Inc.

Thanks for completion in this set should go to Richard Hendrickson for his knowledge and insight into these cars, and Ed
Hawkins, for his knowledge and reference photos, including those used here, with his permission.
Shown below are prototype photos, model photos, and the decal artwork. Actual lettering is printed in White.
