HO MOW Conrail Caboose Decals

HO MOW Conrail Caboose Decals

$5.00

After the creation of Conrail on April 1, 1976 the railroad faced a huge logistical task of re-numbering, re-classing, and re-painting the caboose fleet. However, once they started doing that, a unified look started to come to the fleet of cabooses from railroads of different colors.

This decal set was created to cover every class of caboose used in MOW service, Ex-EL N3, Ex-PRR/PC N5 and an Ex-NH/PC NE6. Of these three classes, the N3 has been imported in brass and also as a resin kit by JJL Models, the NE6 has been imported in brass and produced in plastic by Intermountain, the N5 has been produced in various forms including brass and most notably as a plastic kit from Bowser.

These cars were painted with a gray body color, black trucks and roof with the roofwalks removed. A vast majority of the N5 stayed in their as-built configuration with the original steps and original single-spring trucks, however some did receive the new steps.

The primary source of the list was Tom Wolfgang’s Conrail Caboose site crcaboose.railfan.net and also the site of the Conrail Historical Society, www.thecrhs.org.

This set has enough data to accurately letter 1 car. There are two complete caboose numbers on this set, plus prefixes for any other car numbers. The numbers given correspond to the N5 class: 46152, 43137.  A detailed roster of every known MOW caboose is provided. Noted are ones which had specific assignments and this lettering included.

Detailed instructions for decaling can be found in any standard set given by major manufacturers supplied with their product, such as Microscale.
